First impressions have never been my forté, but the advantage is that my second impressions are always an improvement. When I was a river guide I would wear Billy Bob teeth to meet the new clients. They were almost always disgusted by the character I played, but when we got to camp and they saw me cooking dinner as the lovable and fun river rat, it was always a disarming relief that made for great laughs and tight relations for the remainder of their vacation.
Although one or two might argue otherwise, my unique personality and unconventional approach to people generally endears me to them and, in my opinion, has helped me gain the trust and unique perspective in the personalities who have lived their stories in front of my camera. These are all stories I produced that I’m particularly proud of because I had either had to fight someone to make it happen, survive and thrive in a difficult environment to capture it, followed an outside-the-box story thread that produced some tv gold, and/or a combination of.
